Hands up if you’ve not yet used an electric toothbrush? In all honesty, an electric toothbrush is widely regard by those who know as being one of the best ways known to maintain oral hygiene. And the Philips Sonicare Flexcare+ is the best electric toothbrush that I’ve used, and over the years, I’ve used quite a few.
The kit that you get is quite comprehensive. It comes with two brush heads, which is great if there’s two of you in the family. There’s a little carry case for traveling, and two charging bases: one is a smaller one for traveling, and the second is a larger one for home use. This one also has a closed UV cleaning compartment, which permits you to sterilise your brush heads.
As I’ve just noted, it’s rechargeable, and uses induction charging to accomplish that. That means that there’s no direct connection between the mains power source and the internal batteries: it’s all done with mirrors. Or magnets, or coils.
Importantly, it works. Battery life is stated to be three weeks, allowing you some leeway if you travel. In my testing, this was found to be a conservative estimate. There’s also a little battery indicator on the brush handle that tells you the current level of charge. This conveniently illuminates itself following every time that you brush.
In general use, it employs a two minute brush cycle, with timing indicators at thirty second intervals; every thirty seconds you’ll note a momentary change in the brush frequency. This is great, as it gives you an indicator of how long you’ve been brushing, how much longer there is to go, and that perhaps now might be a good time to move the brush to a different part of your teeth and gums.
There are a variety of operational cycles, providing for different types of oral care, including Gum Care, Refresh, Sensitive, and Massage. The standard brush cycle uses an ultra fast vibrational speed, and leaves your mouth with a refreshing just brushed feeling. As it should. The high speeds employed here are an aid to good dental health, and after a week or two’s use, you can sense that there’s an improvement in the way that your mouth, teeth and gums do feel.
Highly recommended.
